I initially graduated in Home Economics, Food and Nutrition and had a 

10 year career in the Head office of Marks and Spencer (UK) developing the Food Business. I chose to take a break to have my family and we were relocated to the US with three young children.  My fourth was born there. Years of homework and PTA involvement lead me to the decision to become a specialist teacher. I gained a Post Graduate Diploma to teach and assess children and adults with dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia and other leaning difficulties. I trained at the Dyslexia Institute to teach Math and also Certified to teach Study Skills. I am also qualified through Homestart UK to support families with children under 5 years of age.  RADA and LAMDA speech and drama qualifications were gained over many years.

Since 2005 my private practice has involved working with children and adolescents on a one to one basis but with the total involvement of the parents. I tutored parents, siblings and teachers to ensure that the whole family was supported and all aspects of the problem could be addressed. Parents are often unsure how to support their children and how to communicate effectively with them. Recently I have been involved with a charity in Singapore supporting new mothers by guiding them through the early days of motherhood, breastfeeding, sleep and weaning.

In London I assessed children for dyslexia and other learning related difficulties, I taught children to read, I helped to develop their reading enjoyment and improved their comprehension skills. I taught children to write, to spell and form sentences, to sequence thoughts and structure stories and how to write reports. I taught math to children who really struggled to understand concepts and numeracy. I taught study skills including mind mapping, memory techniques and exam preparation. In many cases difficult behaviour is co-morbid with many learning difficulties. Parents and teachers need to understand the the nature of the problem and learn strategies to deal with them.
